About Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo makes a fascinating day out for everyone at whatever age. For mostly we all love creatures of the wild and enjoy seeing them as close up as we can, and in conditions similar to their original domain.

At Chester, in gardens set out over 110 acres visitors have the opportunity to see over 7,000 animals and 500 species in spacious enclosures, some of which are in danger of becoming extinct. The bears of Cloud Forest are an endangered species. These are the bears upon which the famous Paddington Bear is modelled. Like the bear we all love to cuddle, they have unique markings around soft eyes, and an appealing nature.

The zoo is a complete celebration of the animal kingdom, it has everything from a small fluffy owl to tiger's and rhino. There are Elephant's, including babies, Camel's, Kangaroo and Chimps, the fascinating Meercat, Llama's and Emu's. You can enjoy Sea Lions with their endearing antics, watch Penguins, Otters, and you can also see Pheasant, bright Flamingo, and richly feathered, noisy but graceful Peacock, to name but a few.

Other features in the Zoo include a Zoofari Overhead Monorail, Children's Farm, Aquarium and a Waterbus. The Zoo has special feeding times, a children's "Fun Ark" and a discovery trail. For those wishing to take part there are opportunities for Face Painting, Brass Rubbing, and Badge Making.

Taking all this on board you will quickly realise you are about to have a very crowded day indeed! But you do not have to worry, there is a choice of restaurants where you can rest over a coffee or a meal. Or for those who prefer, and naturally weather permitting, there are pleasant picnic spots where you can enjoy a packed lunch in fresh air and beautiful surroundings.

Chester Zoo welcomes visitors all year round except for Christmas Day.
